Individual Social Responsibility

The Second Amendment is being challenged every day by federal, state and local authorities. Government officials are attempting to act above the law. Trillions of dollars of debt have been accumulated in a matter of months.

What have our government policies done to our country’s foundation? Recent policy changes are on the verge of completely destroying our government stability if you ask me.

The American government’s accountability has been shattered on virtually all fronts. In 2009 the Troubled Asset Relief Fund bill was passed. This came as a complete shock to a large number of Americans that did not support this bill. We allocated 700 billion dollars to save our failed banking system? How could this be? It is true. Much worse over 250 billion of the first half went to institutions in an attempt to get the lending back on track rather than to buying “troubled assets.” A large amount of these moneys, to this day, still remain unaccounted for to the public.

After President Obama was elected, the former Governor of Illinois attempted to auction off the chance to take over his senate seat to fund other shortcomings of the state. Blagojevich is also on record for attempting to secure a high powered position for his wife. These are only a few examples of indiscretion from one government official. The list could fill an entire book, if not encyclopedia.

The state of Montana is attempting to pass a bill to allow for all firearms manufactured in the state to not fall under federal regulations. I can only assume that this is due to developing federal policies that pose a threat to Second Amendment rights.

Are these the type of fundamentals that we as citizens want our hard earned tax dollars supporting? I say no.

We as citizens have a responsibility to do something about this injustice. The most obvious form for making change is our right to vote. I think, that on its own this system has proven in recent years that it is not enough to make changes or hold public officials accountable.

In order to accomplish the restructure of our government, the first and most important step is to enlighten our citizens. It may not be the most interesting subject for most, so finding ways to show how theses behaviors and policies hit home for the average citizen is crucial.

Impeachment should be on the rise. I think we need to start exercising our rights to remove officials from their official positions on a much larger scale. Impeachment is nothing more than having charges brought against an official for the sole purpose of removing them from office. This process has nothing, in itself, to do with criminal charges or convictions. Bringing impeachment charges against an official clearly brings the issues to the public’s attention via the media. This may prove to be very effective for both enlightening our masses as well as shifting control back to the citizens. I believe we should keep our officials in fear of their careers every day that they choose to remain in office.

The government should fear the people, the people should never fear their government. Thankfully, our founding fathers took times like the present into account when developing the ‘Bill of Rights.’ Every amendment written in the original publication was in some way intended to prevent the government from becoming so large and powerful that the citizens feared it, or became bound and helpless to its alteration. Since that time, a gross misdirection of public policy has created just that, which we as a people have fought so hard to liberate ourselves from.

The time has come to stand up and let our voices be heard. It is time to stand as a diverse, muddled mass in the face of our government oppressors, and say “Stop wasting our money.” “The fraud and indiscretion is intolerable.” “We have had enough!”

If our officials choose not to heed our plea, then the time has come to overthrow our government as we know it and re-establish one that fights for the things we stand for: Freedom of oppression, individual responsibility, opportunity to grow and learn, health and general well being for all that bear the title as a citizen of the United States of America.

Your point is well taken, but your last comment about overthrowing the government is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. There are more effective ways to implement change.

Do not over throw the government because it could allow someone that will do a worse job than the one in office now.

There are certain grammatical errors, as sentence fragments and needed commas, yet your topic was strong enough to distract me from them. It is well presented with rich, factual support. It may be that I partially agree with you, but I give you my critique with little bias. A society does need to be more aware of their representatives and should apprehend that this is a nation that is at their disposal that directs every aspect of its condition in the future. The last couple paragraphs reminded me of V for Vendetta, a great picture if I do say.

By the way, I appreciated your earlier comment. It actually stated something with substance, which is always nice I suppose.

Over all a good essay with bits of what them above have said. Well informing and captures your attention but it gets too oppinonated and angery I'm the same if not worse though what helps me is to take a minute or two and relax or not really think much ove it then read it over that might help you with that but still very good. :)

Hi,
I would like to say that everyone is entitle to their own opinion. But why make one man responsible for all the troubles of the U.S.? We have been in trouble for a long time. This Country has not had good days since Clinton. Open your eyes to all the facts, and wait on the end results before passing Judgment, Please.

Hi,

your essay is very persuasive. it caught me with a hook, and let me to the end without any pause. but, as one mentioned above, u seemed to have gone too far in saying about overthrowing the government.

keep your good work.
